Providing young people an opportunity to mature in their faith-walk and life skills through Christian service
U.M. ARMY is an acronym which stands for United Methodist Action Reach-Out Mission by Youth. U.M. ARMY’s mission is: “To provide Christ-centered quality youth work camps that serve people in need and promote spiritual growth and leadership development in youth.”
U.M. ARMY Mission camps are an opportunity for youth, college students and adult leaders to experience Christian growth through mission, worship and fellowship. Individual participants and church groups combine their strengths with those of other groups to meet home repair and maintenance needs of those unable to help themselves.
U.M. ARMY has been holding camps since 1979 and our program is constantly growing in size and territory. We have managed to touch many lives over those years. Annually we have 5,000 participants working on about 2,000 projects and now have mission opportunities during Christmas, spring break, summer months, and weekends throughout the year!
Our mission camps were originally designed for Senior High aged students who had completed at least one year of High School. Today, many of our chapters have expanded offerings specifically designed for Middle School Students (Basic), Mixed Age (Middle School/Senior High), and College/Young Adult mission camps.
Our mission is accomplished every summer when over 1,000 youth and adults throughout Central, South, and West Texas sacrifice a week of their vacation to give to others. Using a local church as a home base for camp, participants spend the week providing work for low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners in the surrounding areas. Projects include general repairs and clean up, building wheelchair ramps, porches, steps, handrails, painting, mowing, and being Christ’s hands and feet in the world. Daily worship and noon devotionals serve to focus everyone on Christ and promote spiritual development.
